What is my tax identification number?

Your “Tax Identification Number” (TIN) is a key component for completing your tax forms.  It is important to complete your tax form with the correct “Tax Identification Number” (TIN) to insure your account is not subject to any unnecessary taxation.

To simplify the process, we have provided a few guidelines on how to determine the correct tax identification number (TIN) to submit on your tax form:

U.S Citizens (residing in or out of the U.S) / U.S.Companies

  • Individuals (Sole Proprietors) TIN = Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Companies (S/C Corp, LLC) TIN = Employer Identification Number (EIN)

Non-U.S. Individuals/Sole Proprietors:

For the purposes of the U.S. W-8 tax form, your Foreign TIN is the identification number issued to you by your country of residence.  The OECD has compiled a list of TIN by country to make it easier for everyone to understand and determine the what the TIN is called in your country.  You can view the list here https://www.oecd.org/tax/automatic-exchange/crs-implementation-and-assistance/tax-identification-numbers/

Please see the table below for additional information.

Important Note: Non-U.S. Individuals/Sole Proprietors can no longer submit a a U.S. issued Employer Identification Number (EIN) on form W-8BEN. You must submit the TIN from your country of residence or apply for a U.S. "ITIN" which is very difficult to acquire.

Non-U.S. Registered Companies (Corporations):

Non-U.S. Registered Companies (Corporations) can provide either a U.S. issued Employer Identification Number (EIN) or their Foreign Tax Identification Number" which is business tax ID issued to the Company by its country of registration.
